　　Joy, a successful designer, seeks a proposal at Christmas. In Wyoming's mountains, she finds what she truly needs when the man she loves sees her as just a friend.

　　艾琳夫人（Helen Hunt饰）是一朵美艳的交际花，她从容地周旋在各类男人间，享受着女神的尊贵待遇，也被他们的妻子视为洪水猛兽，在真正的名媛淑女中臭名昭著。
　　受到30年代美国经济萧条的影响，艾琳来到意大利寻找新机遇，她的出现照例如同投入湖面的一块巨石，搅乱了众人原来的平静生活。其中便包括良家妇女梅格（Scarlett Johansson饰）和丈夫温德米尔，梅格对丈夫的出轨愤怒不已，她决心以其人之道还治其人之身，一场关乎爱情和道德的角力赛已然展开。

　　这是一部另类的科幻电影，像片头的旁白的那样，这里不是地球，而是某个类似地球的星球，那里的文明进化到了类似于地球上的欧洲中世纪。故事改编自 Strugatsky兄弟的小说，这个科幻的创意就是如果当年没有文艺复兴，现在的欧洲文明又会是什么样子？这个故事里，一群来自地球的科学研究人员被送往到那个星球，去引导那个社会的文明发展进程，他们不得使用暴力，不得强行干预，只能引导，男主角像一位先知，也只是整部电影里行为举止唯一正常的人，他在社会底层不断的行走，去开化人们，电影就像纪录片一样跟着他的脚步由此展开。

　　During a cross-country lecture tour, notoriously acerbic radio personality Sheridan Whiteside slips on the icy steps of the house of the Stanleys, a prominent Ohio family, and is forced to recuperate in their home during the Christmas holidays. The overbearing, self-centered celebrity soon comes to dominate the lives of the residents and everyone else who enters the household. He encourages young adults Richard and June Stanley to pursue their dreams, much to the dismay of their conventional father Ernest.
　　Meanwhile, Whiteside's spinster assistant Maggie Cutler finds herself attracted to local newspaperman Bert Jefferson. When she reads Bert's play, she is so impressed she asks Whiteside to show it to his contacts, and then announces she will quit his employment and marry Bert. However, her boss is loath to lose such an efficient aide and does his best to sabotage the blossoming romance...

　　This film took the top honor at the 1969 Berlin Film Festival. After a series of documentaries, this marks the directorial debut for Zelimir Zilnik. It takes a decidedly anti-Stalinist view in the wake of the 1968 Russian invasion of Czechoslovakia and raises important political questions. He states that although the world has experienced untold wars, there have only been a handful of revolutions with any lasting significance that lead to political change.
