　　1977年，一档深夜脱口秀节目《夜猫子》的主持人杰克在面对不断下滑的收视压力下，决定在万圣节夜推出一期特别节目，为了吸引观众，他与制作人不断挑战禁忌，邀请了能与亡者对话的灵媒、超自然心理学家等众多吸睛嘉宾，并企图在节目现场将一名被附身的女孩体内的恶魔召唤出来，一档轻松愉快的深夜节目很快就变成了梦魇。

　　故事描述莱恩（吉诺亚拿尼亚 饰）的妹妹在几个月前失踪了，他认为她失踪的原因是玩了网路上流传的“电梯游戏”，传说只要照着特定步骤操作电梯，就可以前往另一个次元。为了找到妹妹，莱恩说服他的朋友们一同进行电梯游戏，此举却为他们招来无法挽回的后果……
