　　Just before Christmas, Lee Leander is caught shoplifting. It is her third offense. She is prosecuted by John Sargent. He postpones the trial because it is hard to get a conviction at Christmas time. But he feels sorry for her and arranges for her bail, and ends up taking her home to his mother for Christmas. Surrounded by a loving family (in stark contrast to Lee's own family background) they fall in love. This creates a new problem: how do they handle the upcoming trial?

　　Myrna Loy was a fantastic Nora, the ideal wife and considering she made 14 movies with William Powell, she made it look like they were really married.
　　The Thin Man movies, all six of them, played more like sophisticated screwball comedies than murder mysteries, and their comic banter enhanced the proceedings.
　　Their little wire-haired terrier, Asta, quite often stole the scene as he helped sleuth out the guilty party.
　　He was a great little actor and rumor had it that away from the Thin Man movies, Asta was really Skippy.
　　However, the six Thin Man movies credit this cute pooch as "Asta."

　　小津最朴实无华的喜剧作品，一个胡子三个女子的故事。冈岛剑道了得，很受同学欢迎，但一挂大胡子却叫女孩避之则吉，尤其同窗的妹妹几子。毕业后冈岛失业，萍水相逢的广子告之胡子作怪，最好刮掉。没了胡子的冈岛原来是个美男儿，工作马上有了，女孩更在身边团团转，几子广子之外，还来了个坏女孩。小津爱用演员性格塑造角色，演胡子的冈田时彦也不例外。他是小津极喜爱的演员，在此片催化作用巨大，尴尬笑料由俊朗的他演来漂亮挥洒，又没半点喜剧演员的轻浮作态。可惜冈田早逝，《东京合唱》成了他的绝唱，不然小津的悲观调子会大大推迟。

　　Scion of the once-rich Mitchell family, Herbert Wynn is found shot to death. Nurse Adams, bored by hospital routine, is recruited by the police to ferret out clues as she tends to Wynn's elderly aunt Julia.
