《北极》是一部IMAX3D 纪录片，由IMAX公司、迈克沃瑞·弗里曼巨幕电影公司、华纳兄弟影片公司联合制作。影片由美国著名纪录片导演格雷戈·迈吉里弗雷执导，奥斯卡影后梅里尔·斯特里普为其叙述旁白，奥斯卡金像奖保罗·麦卡特尼为其操刀配乐，制作阵容可谓十分强大。                                                                      　　在超过4年的时间里，导演格雷戈·迈吉里弗雷带领着他的电影制作小组分7次来到了北极，共计用了8个月的时间不断地挖掘和拍摄了大量来自于冰面和海洋的故事。导演格雷戈·迈吉里弗雷用3D摄像机捕捉到了那些在别人看来根本就不可能实现的内容或主题，将那些人力不可及的自然环境全部以栩栩如生的方式展现在观众面前，把北极广阔的冰河、雄伟的冰川、宏伟壮观的瀑布、庄严肃穆的雪山还有北极熊母子之间的深切爱意展露无遗，呈现给观众惊心动魄的极地影像奇观。                                                                      　　在IMAX3D影像呈现下，观众可以释放全身的感官去张开想象力的翅膀，近距离地观察北极熊艰苦求生的生命史诗，一起领略北极震撼的自然风光。观众可以和海狮一起站在苍茫的雪原上吹凛冽的寒风，和北极熊妈妈一起在幽蓝的海水中潜游，和海鸟一起翱翔在雄伟的雪山之巅，和熊宝宝一起在巨大的冰川上看绚丽无比的北极光……一切都如身临其境。
